He shares the approach he embraces to extend assistance to members and guests with kindness and care.

Members strolling the grounds of the NSRCC may have found Ismail Bin Abdul Manif, Security Officer, a familiar face. Besides patrolling the area and facilitating bungalow check-ins, Ismail, who joined the NSRCC since April 2012, also safeguards the serene, tranquil, and panoramic sanctuary with a heart full of warmth, uplifting spirits along the way.

Ismail brightens members’ day with his radiant smiles and jovial greetings. Ismail would gladly go the extra mile to assist people who require directions.

“I greet members and guests, and extend assistance if they require directions. I try to understand and speak with the members and guests with kindness and care,” Ismail said, with quiet humility.

He believes that an exceptional customer service representative embodies certain key qualities.

“A good customer service representative is friendly, helpful, honest, sincere, and patient, and will extend a warm smile to everyone he or she meets,” Ismail said.

Gaining Recognition for His Excellent Service

His steadfast efforts to provide members with pleasant experiences have been recognised. Ismail is honoured as one of the Service Excellence Award Recipients in FY 24/25.

“It is a surprise to receive the Service Excellence Award. While this award brings me pride, it also motivates me to continue providing excellent service to members, and guests,” Ismail said.

Members will continue to experience Ismail’s impeccable service as he enjoys working at the NSRCC.

“I like this place very much. It offers a scenic and tranquil view of the sea and is close to the beach. The colleagues, members and guests are also friendly and would greet me whenever they see me,” said Ismail.

Ismail’s amiable disposition, empathy, politeness, soft-spoken demeanor, patience and willingness to extend a helping hand, exemplify his commitment to providing members and guests enjoyable experiences. With his unwavering dedication to service excellence, Ismail remains a quiet beacon of hospitality, standing watch with grace, kindness and the warm smile that has become a part of NSRCC’s warm welcome.

Intrigued by his father’s passion for golf, Jayden Loh, 14, accompanied his father to watch him play. That sparked Jayden’s interest in playing golf. He benefits from the training at NSRCC’s Junior Golf Development Programme and takes pride in emerging third in his school’s golf tournament. He shares his aspirations going forward.

Intrigued and inspired by his father’s passion for playing golf, Jayden Loh, 14, badgered his father if he could watch him play. That ignited Jayden’s interest in playing golf. He took the bold step to transition from an observer to a player, a journey sparked by curiosity.

“Watching my father in action, I became interested in the game. I purchased a set of clubs and started playing golf in NSRCC’s Junior Golf Development Programme (JGDP),” said Jayden.

Benefitting from the Junior Golf Development Programme

Since enrolling in JGDP, Jayden has gleaned invaluable insights on leveraging techniques to amplify his golf proficiency. The JGDP transformed his passion into purpose.

"JGDP has helped me in several ways, including improving my short game, approaching shots, and more. The coaches taught us the techniques to play at different areas of the course and when to use certain techniques," shared Jayden.

Playing golf requires him to juggle his time effectively between school commitments and his golf practices. Yet, he does not regret the time expended playing and practicing golf. His constant practice on the green bore fruit when he clinched the third place at his school’s golf tournament.

"That was my proudest achievement so far!" quipped Jayden.

Putting His Golfing Skills to the Test

He is enthused about testing his mettle to see how far his swing can take him, benchmarking his progress against the peers in his group.

"I'm excited about meeting others of my age group people and competing against them to see who comes out on top!” Jayden quipped.

With confidence in his stride, and eyes set on the Junior Inter-Club League, Jayden shares with quiet determination, “My goal is to win the Junior Inter-Club League (JICL) this year."

With each swing, Jayden goes a step closer to his dream – driven by his passion for the game, and his heart set on the horizon.

Diagnosed with kidney failure in 1988, Ab Aziz Jamin embarked on his dialysis treatments while grappling with financial struggles and social alienation. In 1991, he received a kidney transplant. In 2004, his transplanted kidney became infected, and he resumed his dialysis at the National Kidney Foundation. His experience with kidney failure inspired him to become an active volunteer and advocate to spread awareness of kidney disease and treatment while championing awareness of organ donation among the Muslim community.

A Life Fraught with Setbacks

Diagnosed with kidney failure in 1988, Ab Aziz Jamin embarked on his dialysis treatments at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) while juggling a demanding job as a marine officer. The accumulative cost of dialysis placed a huge financial burden upon him and his family. On top of that, the physical strain of kidney failure and frequent dialysis left him feeling severely fatigued.

Aziz grappled with the harsh reality of being alienated from friends and colleagues who could not fully comprehend what he was experiencing. In those early days, dialysers had to be cleaned and reused, which compounded the challenges he confronted.

Life took a positive turn when his wife secured a job at the hospital, which improved their financial situation. In 1991, he received a kidney transplant, which provided a respite from dialysis and a semblance of normalcy to life.

Unfortunately, thirteen years later, his transplanted kidney became infected, and by 2004, Aziz resumed dialysis at NKF’s dialysis centre.

Finding His Purpose

Amid these challenging times, Aziz found solace and purpose in volunteering. His personal experience with kidney failure inspired him to become an advocate, working with the Human Organ Transplant Act (HOTA), Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS), and the Muslim Kidney Action Association (MKAC) to promote organ donation awareness within the Muslim community. Since 2015, Aziz has been a significant presence in NKF, actively participating in volunteer activities as a proud NKF Patient Kaki to be a friend to fellow dialysis patients. Aziz is also actively involved in NKF’s Renal Rehabilitation and Lifestyle Rewards Programme, where he frequently participates in education and exercise activities.

Despite nerve issues impeding his mobility, Aziz continues his advocacy work. His voice remains a powerful tool in spreading awareness and educating others about kidney disease and treatment. He contributed to several bazaars and fundraisers, leveraging the stage as a platform to entertain and raise awareness about kidney health. Even when confronted with challenges of unresponsive patients and motivating the younger generation to volunteer, Aziz's steadfast dedication never wavers. In recognition of his efforts, Aziz recently received NKF’s Life Champion Commendation Award in the Inspiring and Resilient Champion category.

“If I can use my experience to help others, why not? That is why I decided to speak up and tell others about kidney disease and organ donation. I hope that my efforts can make some difference in people’s lives,” said Aziz.

From his early days of dialysis to his ongoing advocacy and volunteer efforts, Aziz exemplifies enduring hope and perseverance. He continues to inspire and uplift those navigating the challenges of kidney disease, embodying the spirit of resilience.
