Kingsley accompanied his father, an avid golfer, to the golf range on a weekend when he was 13 years old. That joyful and fulfilling experience unravelled Kingsley’s passion for golf.
“The moment I hit the ball, I felt a sense of happiness and satisfaction. I realised that golf is my sport. After a few weeks, I gradually became more and more interested and engrossed in golf,” said Kingsley.
Training in the Junior Golf Development Programme
He was thrilled about being accepted in the Junior Golf Development Programme (JGDP).
“I was brimming with happiness and excitement when I learnt of my acceptance in the programme. JGDP enables me to play golf, a sport I love while improving my overall golf game,” said Kingsley.
Since enrolling in the JGDP, Kingsley has been practising golf through mini-games every Tuesday.
“These games sharpen my skills; from chipping, putting to the long game. Following the mini-games, there would be a short session on the golf regulations. These rules are crucial for us competitive golfers to ground us while shaping the spirit of the sport,” shared Kingsley.
He credits his coaches for their unwavering support in bolstering his golfing proficiency.
“I would like to thank Coach Kenji (head coach), Coach Elizabeth (assistant head coach), and the other coaches from The Golfing Lab,” Kingsley said.
A Fine Balancing Act
Yet, juggling learning golf from his coaches with school commitments involves an intricate balancing act.
“I balance my school commitments and golf by creating a carefully crafted schedule,” he said.
Effective scheduling has paid off. Kingsley has been selected to compete in the Junior Inter-Club League (JICL).
“I feel proud, excited, and honoured to represent the NSRCC’s JGDP team in the JICL. I look forward to competing with other competent players in the JICL, gleaning lessons on the ways to improve my golf game and boosting my confidence,” Kingsley said.
As he steps up to the tee, Kingsley carries not only skill, but purpose – eyes on his objectives, and heart in the game.
“Firstly, I want to get top five in the National School Games. Secondly, I want to win the JICL,” Kingsley said.
