Swinging into Strength & Self Belief

Amid the monotony of her daily routine, meals, studies, and sleep, Victoria Teo found herself grappling with weight gain. When her brother proposed going to the golf range as a family, she seized the opportunity. That experience kindled her passion for golf. Over the past three years, Victoria has been training diligently in the Junior Golf Development Programme, blossoming under the cherished guidance of her coaches. She shares her aspirations as part of the Junior Inter-Club League.

In 2022, the monotony of her daily routine of meals, mugging for her PSLE in 2022 and slumbering had taken a toll on Victoria Teo and fuelled her weight gain. When her brother, Kingsley Teo proposed going to the golf range as a family, she seized the opportunity. Victoria did not look back, as that visit to the golf range kindled her passion for golf.

“During my PSLE in 2022, I felt stuck in an endless cycle of eating, studying, and sleeping every day! It was getting boring, and I was gaining much weight. As we often saw our father going to the golf range to practice alone, my brother suggested that we go to the range as a family. Following our first session, I fell in love with golf as it offered a way out of the cycle of boredom, and I could keep fit,” shared Victoria.

Her Diligence and Coaches’ Dedication Pay Off

Over the past three years, Victoria had been training diligently in the Junior Golf Development Programme, blooming under the cherished guidance of her coaches.

“The JGDP coaches do their utmost to help me refine my game every week. With their new and innovative challenges, my teammates and I hone our proficiencies while developing our sportsmanship and forging the camaraderie,” Victoria said.

The steadfast dedication of the coaches and her weekly practice paid off.

“My proudest achievement was when I completed the 18-hole tournament and beat my personal record. While I am grateful to receive some awards, the process, small improvements and steady progress in the game make me proud,” Victoria said.

Now that she is in secondary three and her school commitments take priority on weekdays, Victoria allocates time for golf practice during the weekends.

“When I’m free on the weekends, I squeeze in as much practice as possible because I aspire to get better. It can be tough sometimes as I’m always busy. After putting in much effort into training, I gain much satisfaction when I witness the improvement in my game,” Victoria shared.

Victoria aspires to do her utmost for the Junior Inter-Club League (JICL), and sets her sights not only on competing, but thriving.

“For the upcoming JICL events and other golf tournaments, I look forward to doing my utmost in all tournaments and not let my mind control or affect my game while competing with opponents from other clubs. I enjoy feeling the adrenaline rush whenever I hit the ball,” Victoria said.

For Victoria, every tournament is a new opportunity to grow in skill, strength, and spirit.
